La Imago è lieta di ricordare in questo articolo la Giornata mondiale delle Ragazze nell’ ICT (Information and Communication Technology) istituita dall’Onu e celebrata dal 2014 ogni quarto giovedì di aprile (quest’anno 22 aprile) con lo scopo di incoraggiare le donne a scegliere studi e carriere nel campo informatico, settore che è stato inserito tra gli Obiettivi di sviluppo 2030 per le parità tra i generi.

Sapete chi è la donna raffigurata nell’immagine? 

Si tratta di Augusta Ada Lovelace, figlia del famoso Lord Byron e della matematica Anne Isabelle Milbanke, vissuta nel XIX secolo che è stata, pensate, la prima programmatrice di computer.

Cosa è accaduto però dopo di lei? Per secoli il ruolo delle donne nella scienza e nelle scienze è stato sottovalutato, nella maggior parte dei casi hanno ricevuto pochi riconoscimenti e sono state discriminate dai loro coetanei maschi.

I dati Onu stabiliscono che soltanto il 30% delle studentesse nel mondo scelgono discipline nei campi STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Addirittura si scende al 3% in un settore in fortissima espansione come quello delle tecnologie informatiche e della comunicazione (ICT), ciò significa che meno di 1 ragazza su 30 sceglie di studiare materie legate al mondo digitale e tecnologico, nonostante il settore sia indicato tra quelli che domineranno il futuro del lavoro. 

Noi della Imago celebriamo la Giornata Mondiale dedicata alle ragazze nell’ ICT come importante occasione per dare un segnale di rottura con gli stereotipi in virtù  dell’amara consapevolezza che il gender gap nel settore tecnologico rischia di tenere le donne ai margini del futuro del lavoro, poiché dati alla mano, sarà negli ambiti tecnologico-scientifici che si genererà maggiore occupazione.
